catch the light or photography exercises 4

there is no visible information in every single photo from this series. even for me, one who took all this, they do not contain any useful information or expression – just geometry and symbolic mix of the light and darkness. the results of this process can be disputable, but the process by itself was much more important for me.

something in my mood said me go and if in the previous “catch the light” series i just stumbled upon some place by accident, this time i went to the deliberate search for the Light. by additional fortuity, it was rainy evening and i had double quantity of the light on every highlighted surface. Of course – the absence of light creates a lack of reflection. call this “schizophrenia, psychopathy”, whoever… Nothing can erase this feeling of fascination by light. how reflective can be everything. how limitlessly possible an arrangement of shadows on the right places – exactly like actors on a theatrical stage.

Some technical details. i used my favorite 50mm lens this time attached to the body of camera. I really have this dream to take these night shoots with freelensing techniques, but i really afraid to bring additional amount of dust to the sensor when i shoot with very high ISO. it was 3200 on all the shoots of this series and i left the generated noise As Is. partially in Aperture priority and partially in fully manual – all depend on the quality and quantity of the light of desired scene.

enjoy the light :

    1. Thank you for taking a look! This dog was only an alive persone this evening around me ! I was surprised

  1. I cannot give you like from the computer. Strange. Like Button appears only when I’m on the phone. Anyways, don’t need it for what I’m going to say: You are my favourite Street Photographer,Victor.

    1. I have no idea why its impossible from some combinations of software and hardware. Anyway thank you for the kind words ! You know, I’m trying to stay far from the “street photographer” nomination 😉

  2. Brilliant photos ! The light is your friend always … I believe as you say when you go into the night , you look for the light to play . You chase the light everywhere and find it as a dreamer looks for hope . That really is only my impression or psychoanalysis . I feel this way. You must be very happy when you return from your prowls in the night, because these photos show intense perfection in this exercise. I want to try a walk at night after rain now. My favorite is the tree. The roots look like a giant claw of a dinosaur walking !

  3. “how limitlessly possible an arrangement of shadows on the right places – exactly like actors on a theatrical stage.” So true indeed. These photos are absolutely phenomenal…I love the wealth of dank, tangible texture and the shadows are superb. These photos seem to breathe, feeling so real, evoking such pensive and introspective emotion, to me- like poetry. What a wonderful nocturnal ramble. Brilliant images. Smiling cheers,

    Autumn Jade

  4. Very beautiful job, well done Victor! All this photos and the whole project itself are tremendous!
I especially like the fifth and the twelfth of the above shoots, but the idea of this work it’s very intriguing and stimulate me some “imitation” ideas. .. if you don’t mind to be “copied” of course…. 😀 …..
Seriously speaking, nice job and great inspiration!
    Thank you for sharing
