My daily Covid-19 2020

My daily Covid-19 – is the blog-like place for a daily-weekly changing image. I started this page a little bit later, but this theme is still very actual and has not yet reached the highest point of the spiral of its ascent.

Hi friends.
Something interesting just happened this weekend. I went to the recording studio in TelAviv to listen and to take a few shots of my friends The Soul Kitchen band, decided to record their first album. This time I took with me an additional option the old Asahi 50mm f1.4 m42 lens with the goal to try something that I did a long time ago. The FREELENSING. It’s like flying without a parachute. I just don’t attach the lens to the 5dmkii camera and do focus by managing the distance between the camera and the lens. Seems like I will be stuck now to this method for some more days of this week – here is the first image I photographed in my office – the printed and pinned photographs I took during last year, mostly during the first lockdown, but not only.
Stay tuned and have a nice weekend!

Asli Hummus – such lovely place to sit with the fresh Hummus and Fallafel at weekends or during the workweek days. It was always alive and noisy. During the first and second lockdowns i photographed the team of the workers and brought them the printed BW stuff. They loved the idea and continued to take a pictures each of other with their phones during the work and prined the images as well. So right now inside the place there is some beautiful gallery half BW and half colorful images. Actually i have to print some more i photographed and even one selfportrait i took inside of their kitchen 🙂

Just the first morning after the second global Israeli Covid-19 (corona-virus) lockdown. Seems like some people not only forget how to breath freely of these masks, butalso forget how to drive and to keep theyself safe. Finally not onlt this Covid is deadly but all the regular and kinda forgotten things also can kill us. This time the driver, fortunately, survived.

These signs everywhere. In different colors, different words, but always two bare feet. should i take off my shoes? Can i stay in this X-position like this guy ordering his humus or this stand is already illegal? The sign is saying – “2 metres from each other”. Are they talking about these two feet? I feel confused.

I saw this group of the Home Front Command soldiers very close to my offices. I never felt too in love with every kind of a uniform, more likely with the people wearing it, especially when I see them in a mass. Now even more without any attitude and difference to the kind of the service they are taking part in. I just saw their bored faces and their talking commander managed to put the mask under her nose contrary to all the rules of time. I know that all we are already tired of all these rules, but I also know how emotionless the local T-A police to the people on the streets when they are looking for their victims to shoot their fine on them. So, hey, put the mask on your nose when you instruct your subordinates.

Translated – “Delivery Stand”. But i love to eat Falafel immediately at the place of preparation, not at home, not in the office. Flafel is FAST food that love to be socially connected and to be eaten here with other hungrey people with a small talk and a happy smile from ear to ear.

We are loosing. No more theatres, cinema, exhibitions, museums, lectures on history, tourist trips, sports events, sports clubs, clubs by interests, clubs for kids, and pensioners. The pensioners are the most unprotected. Because of their ability to protect thyself, because of their health status, because of their slow ability to change the routine of everyday life. Also because the authorities don’t really interest to save them, to build a social shield – they don’t “bring a thing to the treasury of bourgeois society”, so why bother. “The chance of being infected in a nursing home is 10 times greater.” (just read this in one of the virtual newspapers about death statistics) and this fact is really terrible. If not the COVID, their loneliness will kill them.

Another weekend, another night at the Balfour protests against the CRIME MINISTER, his cabinet and the police brutality. When the second lockdown was announced by Bibi Netanyahu, these protests increased in numbers and their power. These guys continued to sit in their peaceful poses and by the happy accident and their luck were not flooded by the chain of Israel Border Police already “cleaned” the Paris square two times and waited for the 0:00 when their chief announces the end of the event and they very agressively push the protesters out from the square. You can find more from my documentary “Balfour protest”

The strange standing queues returned back – Covid-19 made people a little bit more patience and disciplined. From another side there are much less small talks in these queues. And when you start talking with somebody, ppl look at you like a come from another planet. Or maybe because I use a bandana and not some fashionable or the regular boring and anemic surgical mask.

Seems like the dog walking will return to the most popular kind of activity just in a few days. The quarantine is going to be screwing as never before, but walking the dogs outside for their natural needs should stay untoucheble as the first Covid-19 quarantine. Once people took their small friends for a walk a few more times during a day and now this habit will return back as running and jogging as well.

I saw and photographed this moment during crazy night hours i spent in Jerusalem. When the strong wrath of both sides spilled over the edges of the Paris Square, the real-life was continued slowly but surely. During this and next year we will see more and more people doing this never-ending action – living on the edge.

In the morning I dropped by the Jaffa port, just to meet my friend and to go around with my camera, to feel the sea and the silence of the city entering a coma. The port was almost empty, the hot air was full of the water vapor, and I was heavily sweating, but enjoyed the walk reached my usual goal to bring as much as possible from every situation. I found this collection of the used and carefully washed masks and have no idea if it was someone’s cynical ART installation or it was the real second use by this shit.

The first time ever I post two images as a short daily story to my daily posts pages. Today I finished my workday and decided to go to the old Jaffa, where I haven’t been for a long time. No tourists, almost no locals. Some bars and pubs are completely empty, some put up a notice about closing their business. Was nice to see this always popular Jaffa Knafeh place still open and even full of visitors waiting for their orders at the entrance. On Friday the global lockdown will start and all this area will be closed or will manage to send the order with the Wolt deliverymen. Feelings of evil and despair overwhelm me all the last time. I know that our government did nothing with the goal to avoid another 3 weeks lockdown period (and there are speculations about a much longer 2 months one).

Today i got this “Backstage” zine from my brother Jeremy Spierer. This zine is “A collection of images made “Backstage” during the Festival de Cannes (ed. 2018 and 2019) by photographer Jeremy Spierer while working for a major high jewelry brand.”

All presented images photographed in a journalistic manner, very fresh and full of life, as he know to express the happening around him. Mostly colorful, partially b&w photographs, and yes… this smell of just printed magazine.

With all the craziness that is going around – i spend much less time with my friends and my family. I even don’t talk about our regular Rock’n’roll events and the nature friend’s jams. I was happy to join today both – jam session and a time spending with my friends. It was a birthday with beers, music and this kite. I also tried to manage its’ flight. Quite successful.

They are praying at this open space place in the middle of every day. They come down from high-rise buildings of their offices and working places and staying together with the 2-3 meters isolation distance each from other. This guy was a little bit out of the praying “crowd” and his hands… I don’t know what exactly he felt or thought at this moment.

  1. really like your daily Covid-19 blog… wish I could do something similar, but there isn’t much interesting to shoot in my hometown or in my home where I spend most of my time beside work 😉

    1. thank you very much Christine. im lucky somehow that wasn’t sitting at home during the first and now second global country’s lockdowns. im photographing almost every day and even got usual to these pandemic signs.

      1. good for you :)) at least I could go to the beach during summer and I was traveling two times to Hamburg meeting our friend Ernst Wilhelm, and I’m way behind processing my images due to work and other things… actually right now I’m sitting on my terrace and enjoying the last warm summer days 🙂

      1. Thank you Victor. It’s so hard to believe the media in the US. And they pretty much block out everything that happens over seas.
