Transportation – wheels in the city streets.
I already prepared another series of the night photography images, but suddenly decided to show you something different, taken here and there during the recent August and September. I exposed more than the usual number of rolls of film, successfully developed all of these and even scanned some of them. Why i used the word “successfully”? Because I successfully ruined one of the rolls by mistakenly using fixer instead of developer for the first bath. It was a roll, exposed with the panoramic Horizon 202 with some interesting stuff, which i really wanted to see developed and scanned, but let’s put the sad stuff aside.
And now a few words about the camera i used this time. It was a lovely Ricoh FF-3, which I’m already starting to get used to. When i compare it to the Ricoh GR1s, the only one advantage comes to my mind – 28mm 2.8, 7-element, 4-group construction lens. i have no idea how this lens is better than the Rikenon 35mm f/3.2 lens with a 5-element, 5-group design of the much more simple FF-3. But the special CR2 batteries, short-living illuminated LCD display and the film ISO DX code reader makes it less convenient than the cheaper FF-3 version – yes, also the price of the GR1s is x5-6 difference to it’s older brother (sister).
“The peers of the GR1s in the “quality point & shoot” class might include cameras such as the Yashica T5, Olympus mju II, Leica Minilux 2, and Contax T2.” (from Camera-Wiki). The quotes like this and the hype, created by some celebrities, set this excess price on the on average camera.

If you haven’t done it yet – please check my recently made photo slide show. These photographs of my good friend Nomi i photographed with both Ricoh GRii and the 15 years old old work-horse Canon 5d mkii cameras during the night session in the white dunes. Naomi is amazing Fire Art artist. take a look and preferably on large monitors, please.

Another post of stellar photos. I love the textures in your shots, Victor.
Thank you Matt. Nothing can replace the real bw film emulsion textures and grain 😉
Wow Victor It looks FF3 is really great camera ..when you introduced me Ricoh i was WHAT. Its fax machine lol Super street photography you have done !,
haha indeed FAX machine and this FF-3 is even more fax machine. I have to tell you a small secret – my Ricoh GRii just returned home after the one year long service. Seems like it is now fully operational 😉 Still need a real time check
Ohh thats so wonderful news . Welcome back home GR 1 ‼️‼️now yoy have two great machine . Oh 3 great machine included the band Omar 🎸 🔥 🔥
hahaha ! great saying Naomi ! thank you !
I do like your B&W work. Great timing on that first skateboard shot. Im off to look up the Ricoh cameras, I don’t know much about them.
Thank you very much for taking a look!
I took two shots of this guy’s jumps and both turned out very well. And he was really the best jumper from the group of the guys attempted the event. I explored the whole interned to find something portable – digital or film and in my list i had a bunch of the old cameras to check – Konica MG and the Minox 35ML, Yashica T AF, COSINA CX-70, Minolta AF-S. And for my surprise, i saw some old Ricoh XF-30 pocket camera with a manual ISO and focus distance. So i started checking all the 80-90th Ricoh P&S and finally found this FF-3. There is another very interesting model a little bit more High end camera – is Ricoh FF-70, 90, 300.
Thanks for the info! The only POS film camera I have is the Minolta Riva, and it does a cracking job.
yes i heard about this camera, but always wanted something with more control 😉
Victor, I accidentally removed your comment on my blog. I was trying to write a reply and my fingers touched some shortcut on the keyboard and it was gone. I apologize. Those temperatures you noted are very close to the Great Basin area.
It’s ok my friend. Somehow these temperatures remind me of the weather around Jerusalem. Its hot but very dry in summer. Even chilly at nights. And freezing in winters whatever night or day, mostly very windy. But i love to come there for this feeling of extreme weather and to push myself out of my comfort zone. And its working well for my photography practice 😂
I have dabbled in point and shoot film cameras over the years. My Yashica T4 was stolen from my car in Arizona – it was a good camera with a flash that would go off without intention at the worst possible times. The Nikon AF 35 did not work for long. I enjoyed the Olympus Mjuii but sold it from lack of use – mainly from zero creative control. A constant has been the Contax T2. I traded one for another “high end” point and shoot which shortly died. Not a good exchange. After a few years, I acquired another T2 for a relatively modest price. I shot some beautiful images with the T2 in the Acores. Metering was spot on and the lens is outstanding. I have been tempted to purchase one of the Ricoh GR models, but have abstained because of the age and problems with the LCD screens.
Good and not too good experience with the P&S cameras..Sure the Contax is amazing even the price became too high without any reason to be so high. My Ricoh GR1s worked perfectly with a little problems in the LCD. screen but then it stopped opening the shutter completely and now in the local service and i’m waiting already for the repair. But i found another old Ricoh P&S and now I’m kind of happy with 😉
