Why I don’t have New Year’s resolutions – just another blog post.

Yeah the New Year resolutions. Call them what you will – promises, plans, make-believes and imaginary. But first, something else.

The third post with the images my archives about the trip to Ethiopia was ready for publishing, But then, suddenly, virtual reality intervened in this process. I decided to update the WordPress software, on which this site is based. Immediately after the quick update i put my attention that i can’t upload my images in the regular way as i’m doing this already 12-13 years. I updated the “Next Gallery” plugin which is manage the media galleries where i store my photographs. After the update, the function of the images uploading disappeared like the morning dew together with the option of review, my existing galleries and together with galleries disappeared all the photographs. After the quick check in the backend of my site, i found that everything is in place, but probably the application lost the connection to the database, managing all the locations of the images and the links.

I decided to take a break and continue this “nightmare” the next evening. In Russian we say – “The deeper into the forest, the fatter the partisans”, this means “The deeper you dig, the worse side effects you get”. Well i love the original Russian phrase much more. There is another version of it “Deeper in the forest, the boars fatten up” and all this just came from the most ancient proverb of our grandfathers “The deeper into the forest, the more firewood”, which sounds terribly boring. Well, i got lost.

So, i return back to the “nightmare”. After some reading and checking the log files of my site, i decided that now is right time to update the PHP – ” server-side scripting language that dynamically generates the HTML webpages you see, manages database interactions, and powers all themes and plugins. ” (the exact explanation from WIKI). I used very outdated PHPP version and possible it was one of the reasons of my “nightmare”. And the last update i did after this – was the Chrome update of my outdated laptop. Finally everything returned back to the regular position and functioning, but the chain of updates was very long and in some places traumatically a little bit. Especially, after updating the WordPress software, when i lost my site at all. It was a white page with some unnerving warning that the site is broken due to a plugin or theme incompatibility. Well, it was a long way to find and to disable some of unneeded extensions, and i just will stop my narrative here.

So, i return back to the New Year, “next Monday”, “next month”, next year or next life resolutions. Whatever you call them, if one don’t mind to make a changes and to start something today-now-immediately, all this sounds like a great reason not to do this “something” never. It’s why i read the same resolutions made by the same people from year to year. And it’s why i don’t have them, especially before New Year, which is just a start of the new day, and nothing more special and magical, that can help to these resolutions come true.

And now my 2026 resolutions… Just kidding….

Enjoy these random photographs photographed with one of my random cameras.

And, additionally, my last photozine “Isolated in 2020″” is still available on the Blurb store. I photographed the images in the far 2020, during the second (or third) massive isolation due to the only known by our government methods to combat the pandemic. It was a Holidays time and our offices were closed, so the only thing I had to do was staying at home and walking around my village and taking images.

    1. Thank you very much Fraggle. I still have to review many of the old posts and static pages due to the changes in some images storage locations. So some posts became empty of images and I don’t really know what is the reason for this change but i know how to resolve the problem It’s just time consuming 😉
