My world is shaking (part iii) – Fomapan 100 exposed with medium format Holga camera XIV.

(Zero AI – 100% human created content).

Day 41 of the war. Today I connect two of my photography series about Fomopan exposed with Holga plastic camera and the world which is extremely shaking not only in my country. Today I will talk less. I would like to preserve my words for the next post with more chronicles about what is going on here and how people are recovering from the emotional and psychological damage.

It took 4 weeks to finish this Fomapan 100 roll. It’s not like I was in a hurry, actually, I was slow like a caterpillar, like a slow caterpillar. Due to the limited exposure settings of this camera, I was able to use it only on weekends. The days become very short and at 17 PM it feels like already midnight. I decided to photograph all the frames multi-exposed. It perfectly nailed the concept of the connection between the two themes.

This year the Holga week was October 1-7. Usually, I don’t attend this analog photography celebration and 2023 wasn’t an exclusion. But I always have my Holga loaded, in case I feel an arrival of the HOLGAHOLISM and an intense desire to think less and to commit some mistakes without remorse. I started this roll after October 7, when the war was on its pick and the future looked impossible and hazy due to what happened on October 7.

Why shoot a film, if the future didn’t seem happening? It was one of my obsessions of those days. I guess that I wanted to leave my heart’s cry to the next generations. If they will love photography. Black and white photography. Without AI intervention. If the computers and the digital images are still will be an issue. Because it’s impossible to have everything printed. And who said that even the printed stuff will survive an existence that will become the FUTURE?

  1. Always good to see your Holga work… Doubly so to know you’re doing well.

I like the idea of multiple exposures of the same subjects. It gives it that “all shook up, uh huh” feeling without ICM execution.

    1. Hi Matt. Glad to hear from you. I’m doing as well as possible these days. Daily work routine kind of saves me from thinking much about the creepy reality.
Multiple exposures of the same subjects creates this feeling of the earthquake or shaking 😉 Hope that you’re doing well !

      1. Doing pretty well — getting ready to head into the “holiday season” here. Like, “You think you’ve got it rough? We’re about to be inundated with Christmas music everywhere we go.” 😉

          1. I’m definitely not a fan of what the holidays have become here: I’m sick of the consumerist mindset imbued in most of the west that drives people to mindlessly “just consume product and look forward to next product” as that guy on the internet says.

We have low-key holidays: enjoying family time, low-effort meals, etc. It’s about as anti-consumerist as it gets. That’s nice…

And you’re absolutely right: it’s a good time for photography.

  2. Excellent photography! These images feel very real and raw. They convey far more emotion than ‘straight’ images of the subject. You have given me something to think about in terms of my own photography as well.

    1. Thank you very much for taking a look, Stuart. It always depends on the mood and maybe the feeling of the moment. And also not every camera has the option for multi exposures.My.Hadsey.is also easy but not the panoramic Horizon for example 😉

    1. Thank you Brian for taking a look. Yes, even now we have much much less rockets falling to our cities, the situation in the North is still very dangerous. The war continues and more than 200 are still in unknown condition and location.

  3. Your images capture the disorientation we all feel. I am just broken realizing that so many families have been shattered and crushed. Thank for your sharing this series. Prayers for Israel. Shalom.

    1. Thank you for the kind words. Yes the world of duality.. Many different feelings of what we can do in the closest and far future and how we can continue..I have a few co-workers and friends who lost their family members. A huge trauma for the entire life of many. And the war is still continuing just this first day to make us speechless and absolutely unsure in tomorrow. Shalom friend.

  4. Love this series, they truly provide a glimpse to the feelings… so many people suffer from war and destruction right now.
Btw I need to check if there’s still a film loaded in my Holga, I wanted to do this for a long time, and then maybe find time and a good location for the project. I remember my first trial with the Holga was a mess, because I messed up with the developing process…

    1. Thank you Chris for taking a look.
The war continues, the world becomes crazy. There are two new small conflicts rising and it seems like the Ukraine-Russia war is not interested anymore, even the huge tragedy and the hundreds of thousands lost lives everything is working well by the plans of Putin, who knows exactly how to distract attention. Now ppl learn “history” from TikTok which is also manipulated by some humanity criminals. But most ppl are blind. Sorry for the deep digging at the weekend 😉
Holga is perfect for imperfection. Its just easy for imagination. But sure its very limited with the exposure metering and settings. So, prefer to develop the film exposed with holga in Rodinal 1+100 semi stand. I hope that you will finish you roll 😉
