People Of Jerusalem, Sukkot 2022.
Jerusalem, packed with people open-air market, a pre-festive mood, a sunny day, and black and white film loaded to my camera. Can I find a better combination for the enjoyable pastime? Well, I can add 1/2 of the good beer and a tasty hummus for the full picture.
This walk I started in the Mea Shearim neighborhood, but mostly photographed with a digital camera, due to the lack of sun and the dull light, which periodically has been changing for short periods with a clear sunny sky. I will post the whole series from this neighborhood in the next blog post soon. This time I felt much more confident than the first time when I went in by mistake. This time most people didn’t pay any attention to me, but the kids did. Some of them looked at me curiously, some of them very aggressively which was very strange – I really was confused by this feeling that actual danger may come from kids and not from adults.
Well, except for some not-nice words, everything ended peacefully. I even had a very nice conversation with an old man who asked me where am i. He enjoyed smoking a cigarette in the small window of his apartment balcony, almost covered with a mountain of dried laundry. I didn’t notice him when I was photographing the balcony, but he saw me perfectly, so wondered what I found on his balcony with faded laundry.
It took around 20 minutes to walk there to Mahane Yehuda market, and the weather changed extremely when I arrived there. The strong and harsh sun was kinda teasing me – I wanted exactly this weather just two hours before, but “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth” said I to myself and enjoyed the whole package, which I got from this day. So, here we go.
Such a mix of nostalgic real-life story. A woman sitting in a middle of road that made me wonder myself. Yes the kid! A man who loos like a senior lecturer talking to .. All great and interesting Victor. Hope you had a good hummus :):)
Thank you Naomi. Yes the hummus was best and the same about the beer. I enjoyed the sunny day and the interesting point that many people saw me with my small camera and asked me to take their portraits and to send them to mail.
