Why I love night photography, and why you should too (part ix).

It’s no secret that night time is great for many activities. Reading books and listening music (like me, listening now Krautrock radio), drinking whisky (like me, sitting now with the glass of the smelly like hell Laphroaig Single Malt smoked FOUR OAK) and eating well composed sandwich, reviewing photographed stuff or developing exposed rolls of film, playing acoustic guitar or talking with friends about our plans on the close weekend. But the best thing we can do at night time is explore the darkness of city streets. I could write a doctoral dissertation on this topic, but for my luck, I take better photographs than I write texts. and believe that I’ll leave it as is.

Last week I had the chance to walk around Tel Aviv at night twice. These long 12 km walks included different parts of the city. I can’t say that i took as many images as i anted, but sure there are few interesting i put to the catalog for the next posts highlighting this theme. From time to time I was asked what I do with my camera at night. I’m not sure my explanations were clear to those who don’t use a proper camera, especially on the streets at night. Some asked to see my IG profile.

And if you will ask me about my favorite time of day for photography, Without any doubt or hesitation I will say: NIGHT.

A few weeks ago, additionally to this blog, i started posting my short notes with photographs on Substack. If you posting or reading there as well, you’re welcome to say me hi and to subscribe to my FREE posts and possible very soon also newsletter.

And, additionally, my last photozine “Isolated in 2020″” is still available on the Blurb store. I photographed the images in the far 2020, during the second (or third) massive isolation due to the only known by our government methods to combat the pandemic. It was a Holidays time and our offices were closed, so the only thing I had to do was staying at home and walking around my village and taking images.

  2. I always find your pictures very inspiring. They have a light, casual feel to them with a touch of humor. They give ordinary night scenes something special. It’s great how you play with the artificial lighting from the street lamps.

    1. Huge thank you for the kind words. Happy to know you loved these scenes. My night journey is continuing. I love these extended hours of the opportunity to document with my camera.
