Snapshots from the car – my purposeless photography (part iv).
Good evening – Добрый вечер – ערב טוב – Buenas noches – Добрий вечір – Қайырлы кеш !!! Today i would like to return back to one of my favorite topics – Snapshots from the car. This theme is taking me to the years 2018-2024, when i mostly used for my daily photography point&shot camera, and it was very easy to use it also during drive. Now these day are looking for me as another life, another planet or side of the moon. Since the second Ricoh camera stopped working, I lost this habit.
Everything has its time. And as a good timing to this forth post for this series, these days Ricoh GR IV camera officially announced, and even available for pre-order. It made a huge noise in the photo community, at list around me, lots of people are nonstop talking about this Ricoh’s upgrade. It took for them six and a half years, and now the new GRiv is going to be a reality. Frankly speaking, too expensive reality. If they previous model started from $899.95, so the starter price for the new one in B&H store is $1,496.95 (before the TAX outsource).
And when it will come to the stores of my country, the camera will add to it’s weight (price) some 1/4-1/3 due to the additional taxes, shipping and the local taxes. If you ask me – am I ready for this “donation” to the firm Ricoh and Co. – surely, i will response with the bold “NOPE”. Someone in the local forum wrote me – it’s very special camera, so its OK to pay twice, compared to the previous model. It’s exactly why Ricoh-Pentax didn’t think twice when they named the initial price. During 6 recent years they built the successful business model BUBBLE around this camera, which is really very special for me, but you know, finally it’s only a gear, not something that turns any photo into something unique. In the GR groups people are talking about everything – the presets (kind of filters), the numerous accessories, the must have features for the next models, but somehow not about the main subject – the photography. And indeed – these people are the real consumers, not me. So, Ricoh, please excuse me.
Additionally to photography, today i would like to present you the video slide show, which i edited and compiled recently with the help of Davinci Resolve software. These photographs of my good friend Nomi i photographed with both Ricoh GRii and the 15 years old old work-horse Canon 5d mkii cameras during the night session in the white dunes. Naomi is amazing Fire Art artist. take a look and preferably on large monitors, please.
Now, the photography.

I do like these photos from the car, a little slice of life on your journey. I’ll check out the video later when I’m on the big screen!
Yes please big screen and some speakers 😉
thank you very much !
Wow !, Victor taking photo through the car window is not easy which means you have a great eyes to capture the reality moment. Speaking to camera i was going to send YASHIKA VINTAGE to our friend Lior .found out that cost $250~300 plus etc .😳 so we gave it up . Glad that you are happy with new Ricoh 🤗☝️❤️
Yes I ‘m happy with this ‘new” Ricoh. It’s from the year 1984 but it looks like new and i hope it will serve me longer than these modern, preplanned for short life shitters. Thank you very much !
MyRicoh pocket monster GR2 is still rocks 2019 bought it from your suggestion 🙏🙏 occasionally carried it in ☔️ but still great !
wow good for you. I used both Ricoh heavily.. music events, street walks, numerous protests, documentary projects. But my 15 year old Canon is done not less and its still working.
I know i have seeing them . Low lights all kinds ✨You the pioneer 🔥
Wow, the fire-art photos are impressive.
Love the train shot, too…
Thank you Matt for taking a look and for the kind words !
Good for you. Gear is great, but you could give the gear to a Gorilla and they wouldn’t be able to use it. Is there really that much difference between cameras in the last 6 years? I’m not really sure that there is. It is we the photographer that create the photo and I can still take a shit photo even with a Leica. I couldn’t agree more with you…
Indeed Gorilla wouldn’t . Maybe some of them 😉 i don’t care how modern and fashionable the gear i use. With the Red dot or without it. I need a camera, even an old one, but allowing me to decide what can be put to the manual or automatic mode includes a kind of hyper focus distance like Ricoh does. I don’t ask for more. and 16mp is absolutely ok as well 😉
I still use my x100F and love it, as well as my old film cameras…
Fuji f cameras became a legend. as well their price 🙂
The X100F is still accessible and not too expensive, and still very very sexy!
i meant XF10 – all these Fuji model’s numbers are making me crazy. ;-))
Not always easy. This year I took the Nikon FE, the Pentax ME Super, and the X100F on holiday. They were all used…
i will check. Actually i found that TX10 is very similar to GRii and tried to find one to try before buying. Its also not too popular here.
The photos are wonderful… and the video & music, simply heaven.
huge thank you for the kind words !
I’m constantly trying to come up with photo project ideas. Shots from a car sounds intriguing.
Maybe with one of my point and shoot cameras. But then, full frame or half?
I think that the main idea is more important. Just do this with both 😉 Or with one currently available. 😉
