Unforgettable Ethiopia – after trip photo notes – part iv.
Today I’m returning to one of my favorite topics of this photoblog – my trip to Ethiopia. During the trip i took very nice amount of images and still have in my archives some not published and even still not edited moments of the beautiful connection with locals. The idea of going to Ethiopia again is becoming dimmer with each passing day. So, these moments from the archives is my escape room.
My days are still very busy. I know how to find a new interesting activity or how to update an old one. These days I’m learning to use something new for me Stylophone Theremin, analog sound creator machine, which i got as a gift from my brother. I have already the Stylophone Gen X-1 and now playing with both. To save my first steps as a personal diary, I started recording short videos and posting them to my YT channel as shorts. I will add the link to this playlist below after the images. Additionally i got the real Australian didgeridoo, something I’ve been dreaming about for a long time. The hollowed-out center inside a this eucalyptus tree created by termites. Well, I checked that there was no one else hiding there. :-)) Right now I set myself the task of mastering the skill of the circular breathing, necessary for non-stop playing of the didgeridoo. Yesterday and today I achieved some success in this difficult task, I just need some time to hone this skill.

I can tell from the photos that you have a love and respect for Ethiopia and its people.

Thank you for the kind words Fraggle. Originally the hole is made by termites so the aboriginals found these empty inside trees and made simple musical instruments from them. Today most didgeridoo were made by cutting the tree and making the hole and gluing the parts after this. These still sound great, but nothing can be more interesting than the original 😉

I like the sounds you’re getting out of your theremin. An interesting sense of rhythm seems necessary to make useful sounds with it. Interestingly, I’ve been making an effort to get better at guitar, lately. I have a snippet of a Pink Floyd cover scheduled to post soon.
Thank you for taking a look Matt. The interesting fact of taking portraits there is that ppl are really stoned when I was asking some for a portrait. They hold the breath and don’t move, seems like usual doing that like for the large format portraits. Possibly some of these still remember these old studios. When i was a kid, i remember that mom took me and my brother to the studio like this and the final command was – don’t move;-)

Thank you Naomi..Yes i still have some more posts. It was a long trip between far cities and the villages. Some villages had no electricity, not to mention the internet. And this wasn’t the area of the Ethiopian ancient tribes .
