snow in Jerusalem 2015-i

snow in Jerusalem 2015-i

this year authorities immediately closed the road to Jerusalem (and back) when the news about approaching snowstorm become reality. it took some time and when the “blockade” was open, i immediately went there. the road was completely empty. very green wheat fields on sides of the road gave the impression of an imminent spring. it was 16-17C in sunny TelAviv when i started my trip. it’s became 4-5c in Jerusalem – just 70km from each other and such significant difference. i chose road 433 – more new and more straight in most part of it. in a few stops during the drive to destination i was able to find how “unfamiliar” were the landscapes around me – the white cover just changed everything.

some technical details – during this trip i used “Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art lens”. more about my first impression i wrote in “previous posts”. surprisingly for this extreme weather and not too easy white balance when snow illuminated by the sun is around, i got these nice colors and exposure without additional exposure compensation. but i used 1-2 steps compensation in my shots inside the city when the sun was lower and the light was much more harsh. but i will show the results in my next post.

enjoy the snowy views :

    1. thank you Rona ! the cars are stopped here and there – people just wanted to walk on snow and felt too much free to left the cars in different places, looks like police was also busy in other places because of dangerous roads.

  1. It’s crazy. I believe snowing in Jerusalem is not business as usual. Interesting that the sensor was not fooled by the snow. When I take photos on snow in Slovenia, I’m used to compensate with +1EV, other ways the snow becomes grey. Great experience Victor. I like the photo with the muddy torrent. It looks so weird.

    1. Hey Vili ! thank you for taking a look !
it was really nice experience. almost everything i exposed with f/8-f/11 so sunny rule as usual at the top 🙂 the next series will be absolute different and more extreme.

    1. Absolutely not common. Only once or twice even not every year. Last year i was stuck on the same road for 16 hours on the road during crazy storm. All the drivers were evacuated next day by the army. It was the adventure ;-))) and i returned back after two days to take my car when the road was clean for the usual traffic. Thank you for taking a look

    1. It was good to remember how powerful this snowy storm was one year ago. Working now on the old pictures for the next post about year 2014 😉 thank you for taking a look. Snow is really different for us.

  2. Hey Victor – these are wonderful ! We have yet to get this much snow ! It is lovely in some of the areas I recognize along the road you have shot before . I love the horses too! The last photo looks like some people had very big feet !
