Chasing the fog in the Jerusalem mountains with Nikon F2.

Last winter I tried several times to catch a heavily foggy day, but, all my attempts were unsuccessful. This weekend everything started as usual – in the morning I saw from the window how low and deep the clouds around my living place. I also checked the web cameras site with the realtime nonstop running videos from different parts of the country. My famous area was beautifully covered with fog, so I just took a thermos with hot coffee and went in pursuit.

Rollei 400 RPX was loaded into the Nikon F2 with the 135mm lens attached already 4 or 5 weeks of the patient waiting. I decided to use this “long” 135mm lens with an idea to compress the distance between me and the selected foggy areas with the goal to visually crop and to isolate the scenes and to create some more dramatic frames.

The idea to photograph this extremely different condition of the weather on film was just another challenge when the real difficulty was to get most of the gray tones and to save the feeling of the cold, windy and rainy day shrouded in mist cotton, that moved very fast together with the frozen wind.

All the popular by the local travelers places i visited this day where absolutely empty of people. This was another joy to drive and to walk between the places – to find yourself outdoor alone in this small country is not an easy thing, so, only this “bad” weather can be a helper.

The technical info about this series – i used Nikon F2 from the year 1973 (by the serial number) and the 135mm f/3.5 Nikkor-Q lens also from 1971-73. As said above, the camera was loaded with Rollei 400 RPX black and white film. I developed the roll in the ilford ID-11 stock solution.

Hope you will love this series.

Please take the same locations, the same spots, but under the sun.
    Greetings from Canada.

  2. Great series Victor! Love the atmosphere here. Can’t help but remember the “Hedgehog in the fog” Russian cartoon while looking at some images.
